Barcelona stay three points clear on top of the La Liga rankings, thanks to a brilliant display from Barcelona wonder Lionel Messi. Last season, where Barcelona lost just one La Liga game to this same team, they must have come into the game with some revenge up their sleeves. In the beginning, the match seemed tough for Barcelona, however, Lionel Messi had to show once again why he’s well-respected in the arena, with a hat-trick ensuring Barcelona goes into 2019 as league leaders.
With the absence of Nelson Samedo due to injury, Barcelona head coach, Ernesto Valverde fielded three central defenders. With Ousmane Dembele starting the game as a wing back, Barca failed to make good attacking moves.
There was less action in the first thirty minutes, until Emmanuel Boateng found the crossbar. Immediately, this lit up the whole game, with Leo Messi finding Luis Suarez with a pass after attracting four levante defenders, Suarez made no mistake, he sent the ball in with a volley. After the goal, Barcelona dominated the game, and Sergio Busquests thought it was the best time to open a through ball, and Messi made no mistake slotting it in.
The second half began with a confirmation of victory for Barca as Suarez, Jordi Alba and Messi involved in a counter attack, created Messi’s second goal and third for the day. Messi then completed his hat-trick thirteen minutes later, giving the visitors a 4-0 lead after some great pasing that ended with Arturo Vidal. (Coutinho), Alba, Messi, Suárez
