Chelsea 0 Southampton 0: Chelsea Held to a Goalless Draw

Chelsea, despite taking control of the match, couldn’t break down a well-organized Southampton side. Eden Hazard had the best chance for Chelsea, however his well-placed shot was stopped by Premier League newcomer Angus Gunn.

Chelsea faced a major blow in the first half as Maya Yoshida gave Willian a strong challenge, which led to the latter being replaced by Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who was just returning from a back injury.

Mid-way into the second half, Alvaro Morata’s celebration was cut-short after the referee ruled the goal offside. Southampton on the other hand had very few chances, with Chelsea goal keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga easily saving Oriol Romeu’s shot.

Chelsea requested a late penalty after Shane Long somehow tripped Marcos Alonso, but Jonathan Moss (the referee) waved it off.

Despite struggling to earn a point from today’s game, Southampton still dropped to 18th spot, after Burnley registered a 2-1 win at Huddersfield.
