The Iranian’s officials have assured FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) that women will be allowed to attend a World Cup qualifying game which comes up next month.
Gianni Infantino, the current president of FIFA said that allowing women enter football stadiums is something that has not happened in 40 years, in a conference that held on Sunday. This happened after activist Sahar Khodayari set herself ablaze outside a courthouse. She was detained and was to face six months imprisonment due to the fact that she disguised as a man to enter football stadium in Tehran.
Gianni Infantino, FIFA’s president maintained that “There is women’s football in Iran but we need Iranian women as well to be able to attend the men’s game. And we need to push for that with respect but in a strong and forceful way. We cannot wait anymore”.
