Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai has just enrolled his son Abubakar Al-siddique El-Rufai in a public primary school known as Capital School Malali, Kaduna. The governor promised to do this during a state broadcast in 2017 and he has just fulfilled his promise.
This is really uncommon and this particular act is worth embracing in the country. We are in a country where our leaders love to enroll their kids in schools outside the country believing that the best resources for educating people are not in Nigeria. Governor Nasir El-Rufai has proved that our dear country Nigeria has what it takes to educate people.
Nasir El-Rufai said: “As we make progress, we will require our senior officials to enroll their children in public schools. And I will by personal example ensure that my son that will be six years of age in 2019 will be enrolled in a public school in Kaduna State, by God’s grace.”
According to Nasir El-Rufai, he believes that the only way our leaders can pay attention to the educational sector and also improve the quality of education in the country is by having their children attend public schools. He also said that when he was much younger, he attended a public school and he appreciates the quality teaching he got.
The child’s mother, Ummi El-Rufai said: “l am glad that we can send a strong message to our leaders and the elites, that we need to start making things work from within our homes. By the time we start attending public hospitals and send our children to public schools, the system will get better. This is a very huge step.”
This is really a good development, if our leaders could embrace this act, then our educational system will experience positive growth and then the country would be a better place to live.
