Once again, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been confirmed as the two highest paid footballers in the world.
Current Best player in the World and Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi has once again retained top spot among the highest paid footballers in the world after earning about £98m ($126 million), over the last year, with his eternal rival Cristiano Ronaldo following closely behind in second spot.
Last Month, the Barcelona sensation shocked the footballing world after he decided to leave Barcelona; a club where he has been for about 20 years. He believed he could activate a clause included in his contract ha would allow him to leave at no cost. However, Barcelona and La Liga disregarded the claim, insisting that he could only find another club if anyone could match his release clause.
After much frustration from the Barcelona board of directors, most especially Josep Maria Bartomeu (Barcelona President), Messi decided to stay at least for another year with the La Liga giants. He does this topping the list of highest paid footballers in the world, after earning about $126 million both in salary and endorsements in the past year.
Juventus and Portugal forward, Cristiano Ronaldo who has been his long term rival, claims second spot after earning about $117 million from his contract at Juventus, coupled with other endorsements off the pitch.
The third and fourth spots are occupied by the Paris Saint-Germain attacking duo, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, after taking their team to the Champions League Final last month. Liverpool Forward, Mohammed Salah is 5th as they get prepared for their English Premiership title defence.
The rest making up the top ten include France superstars Pogba and Greizmann, Gareth Bale, Bayern Munich forward and last season highest goal scorer in the Champions League, Robert Lewandoski and lastly, David De Gea who pies his trade as a Goalkeeper for Manchester United.
